“Galactic Goo” is a series of light science fiction movies aimed for general audiences.
It’s titular first entry finds Sam the Astronaut (Rick Evans-Sharbaz)(suggested to be short for the surname Samanta in early materials) is a spatially displaced Indian Astronaut finding himself displaced on an alien planet. He manages to befriend an Alien slime creature he calls ‘gooey’ (motion capture, Aanya Patil), apparently also not native to the planet. The two combine forces to repair Sam’s ship and find their place on both this exotic planet and the universe.
The movie is known for heavy use of Patil ‘s contortion during motion capture leading to a far stranger alien performance than envisioned in most series.
The second entry, “Galactic Goo, Just in Slime” has the pair successfully arriving at Gooey’s home planet, in crisis over an emergency that may lead it it’s vaporization. Both Evans-Sharbaz and Patil reprise their roles, again the former being the only speaking character. To portray gooey’s species, the largest cast of contortionists ever assembled was motion captured- contributing to the rather large budget of the movie compared to its predecessor. (This included Patil’s mother, who apparently was in several commercials showing contortion skills when Patil was a child)
The third entry “Galactic Goo, Changing forms” is the first fully animated entry in the series. ‘Gooey’ (voice acted by Patil) takes on a humanoid, although obviously still alien form, while Sam takes a slime form onto their next attend trip through the spatial anomaly. This entry is much more philosophical and character driven bent, as each of the characters try to come to terms with the changes.
There is a series of comic books here, mostly focused on Gooey, with increasingly unhinged narratives.
The fourth entry, “Galactic Goo, Many places like home” starts as an animated retelling of the first movie, but ends with Sam returning to an alternate Earth. He struggles to decide if this is enough for him, or if he should attempt to navigate the spatial anomaly again.
As a short film on the blu ray release, Patil reprises Sam and Gooey’s first meeting, now filmed with practical makeup and effects. If you haven’t seen her in person on the convention sweep, a must own.
A questionable fifth entry, “Galactic Goo” had a short, poorly animated web series, that mostly follows a monster of the week formula. While it introduced some novel extensions to the universe, it’s ideas were not thoroughly explored.
“Sam’s Galactic Adventure” is the concluding entry of the series – a lighthearted, wacky 3d single player shooter and puzzle solver game. Gooey is a swappable “utility” character, while Sam is the default “shooter” character- though “any% goo” is a popular speedrun.
