“Orthogonal… Diagonalizer”

“It a sphere in a tube.”

“it’s symptomatic of a non-space faring species, I think.”

“Ok, get it out.”

“Humans have, for lack of a better term, a 3.1 dimensional system. Length, time, width, height. They usually even get that order wrong, because of how they learn it. Length, Width, Height, Time. Width is as 90 degrees to Length, Height is at 90 degrees to both Length and Width. Time is just there, somehow. It comes with a preconception that higher dimensions must continue to be at 90 degree angles to lower ones to be higher dimensions. They have this concept of a ‘hypercube’ – which they can easily excuse it not quite working in 2 or 3 dimensions because its a 4 dimensional object. Neglecting that there are so many known ways to represent a 3 dimensional object in 2 dimensions”

“Ok. That animation thing they do? But that’s a 2.1 dimensional representation. I mean. You’re calling time the .1 right?”

“Time shouldn’t make a difference. It would only be represented in 3d space to be correct. Instead its a frequent artist misinterpretation.””

“So… The alternative is…?”

“You have seen maps with latitude and longitude, yes? Polar coordinates. That’s as close as humans regularly get to the alternative. Really… Look at the 6 dof printers. You’ll start figuring the rest out.”

“You still haven’t explained what this has to do with a Godzilla anime.”

“Dimensions all have matrix math. Abstractions that make convincing numbers. All of which have their place. Orthogonal refers to that 90 degree relations, diagonal refers to making a 3d object project on to 2d. And there are a number of well known ways to do it. They are suggesting that little thing, with the right solution, can do the same to higher dimensions. Which would be somthing worse than a war crime, if you think about it.”
