Several cookie cutters are embedded in her flesh – some tin, some beat up old tin, some plastic, some pressed in deeper than others.

Is this some metaphor for reminiscence / nostalgia due to her age? Events and scenarios most would consider historical that SHOULD have shaped her life but she just outlived?
