It was such a nice, compact word as presented. A perfect ideal, and being swayed from it.
आचरण was less so. ācaraṇa was somthing to be maintained. That required effort. Perfect conduct was not a foundation to build a world on – you can’t expect another man to be better than you could possibly be.
And really, they didn’t. It was just another tool to accumulate power over others. Taken by tools of law, surrendered willingly by those who hoped to gain somthing else from it.
